Fear of divine retribution.

So We saved the children of Israel from degrading suffering

And indeed We rescued the Descendants of Israel from a disgraceful torture.

and We delivered the Children of Israel from the humbling chastisement,

And assuredly We delivered the Children of Isra'il from an ignominous torment

And indeed We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment,

And We delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating persecution.

Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement,

And We delivered the Children of Israel from the shameful doom

Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell.

Or is there immunity for you in the Scriptures?

Do you see any trace of them?

Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord and their Lord has saved them from the fire.

So do you see any survivor among them?

rejoicing in that their Lord has given them and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell.

Or have you an immunity in the Scrolls?

Now dost thou see any remnant of them?

Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed Unto them and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame.

Or is there an immunity for you in the Writs?

Beholdest thou any of them remaining?

Neither will their torment be lightened, nor will it be delayed or postponed (for a while).

Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire.

Do you see any remnants of them?

Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord has spared them the suffering of Hell.

Or do you have immunity in the scriptures?

Can you see any remnant of them?

Neither shall their chastisement be granted nor shall they be granted any respite.

enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire.

Or have you been granted any immunity in the Scriptures?

Do you now see any trace of them?

Their doom will not be lightened, neither will they be reprieved

Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell fire.

Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them?

They shall live under it, and none of their agony decrease nor be respite for them.

Remaining in it forever their punishment will not be lightened, nor will they get any respite.

therein dwelling forever the chastisement shall not be lightened for them no respite shall be given them.

Abiders therein, their torment shall not be lightened nor shall they be respited.

Remaining in it eternally, without their punishment being eased from them, and without being reprieved.

Are your disbelievers better than they were, or have you been given exemption in the Books?

Are your disbelievers (O Quraish!) better than these nations of Nuh (Noah), Lout (Lot), Salih (Saleh), and the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), etc., who were destroyed)? Or have you an immunity (against Our Torment) in the Divine Scriptures?

Are your disbelievers better than those, or have ye some immunity in the scriptures?

They cried out when it was too late to escape.

(When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past.

(Remember) when you killed a man We saved you from anguish and tested and steeled you (in other ways).

Those who do wrong will indeed come to the same end as their fellows (of old). So let them not ask Me to hasten (the punishment).
